Uster Castle

Enjoy the view over Lake Greifensee to the Glarus Alps and the city of Uster.
Uster Castle, the city's landmark, can be visited free of charge from mid-June to the end of October, every Sunday from 2 - 5 p.m. No registration is required. The castle keeper offers guided tours for those who are interested.
Located on the castle hill, 496 meter above sea level, the castle was built around 1100. Its appearance significantly changed over time. Historical pictures still show the tower and the battlement, that was removed in 1917 and replaced by the still visible crow-stepped gable.
After the castle had been privately owned for a long time, the textile manufacturer Jakob Heusser-Staub bought it in 1916. He had it restored and handed it over to the city of Uster as a foundation. A private school has used most of the premises since 1995. The knight's hall and the tower room can be rented for events. Find the required informationen in the Usteragenda brochure.
The castle offers a central view of Uster and is the start of a hike along the ridge of the castle hill to the next view point – Tämbrig.
